Moncloa Palace, Madrid

The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has met with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, whom he thanked for the efforts his country is making to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all the hostages.

During the meeting, the president of the Government of Spain and the Egyptian foreign minister discussed Spain's decision to recognise the State of Palestine. In this regard, Pedro Sánchez conveyed to Shoukry that Spain has taken this decision with the aim of contributing to peace and the search for justice.

They also agreed that this step could encourage states that have not yet recognised Palestine to initiate a process to do so, as well as to support Palestine's accession to full membership of the United Nations. In this framework, they have agreed that the only viable path to peace is the realisation of the two-state solution.
