The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, attended the traditional annual reception for the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Spain given by the King and Queen of Spain at the Royal Palace in Madrid on the occasion of the new year. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, was also present.
The Diplomatic Corps accredited in Spain is made up of 126 Embassies resident in our country, and almost 800 Consulates, 153 career Consulates and more than 600 honorary Consulates. A total of 49 other countries are accredited to Spain, but are based in Paris, London, Brussels or Geneva. Furthermore, 42 international organisations are headquartered in Spain.
After the reception, and as is tradition, King Felipe VI addressed the audience with a speech in which he summarised Spain's actions over the last year, which was marked by a complex and unstable international scenario. It was also a year in which Spain reaffirmed its determination for a rules-based international order and its commitment to strengthening the multilateral system to make it more effective and inclusive.
