Moncloa Palace, Madrid

The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has received the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, at Moncloa Palace, as part of the first meeting of the Strategic Dialogue between the two countries, resulting from the Memorandum of Understanding signed during the president of the Government of Spain's visit to Doha in April, which set the Strategic Partnership between Spain and Qatar in motion.

The visit has further strengthened bilateral relations between the two countries, fostering cooperation in all sectors, with particular emphasis on trade and investment, but also in the fields of education, culture and innovation.

During the meeting, the two leaders also discussed the situation in Gaza. The president of the Government of Spain reaffirmed his support for Qatar's mediation efforts and reaffirmed Spain's commitment to continue contributing to a solution that will bring peace and prosperity to the region.

In this regard, President Sánchez pointed out the need to promote a Euro-Arab framework for action to work on the organisation of a Peace Conference with the parties involved to implement the two-state solution, supporting the Palestinian Authority as the main alternative once the conflict is over.

The president also reiterated the obligation to respect and uphold international law, the only guarantor of a rules-based international order.
