Public and private bodies and institutions in Spain, both within national territory and abroad, and in particular the people of Spain, wherever they may be, were invited to join in a minute's silence as an act of profound respect towards the victims.
During this official ten-day period of mourning, the longest in Spain's democratic history, the national flag has flown at half-mast abroad and with a black ribbon on the tip of the mast in Spain, on all public buildings in the country, on Spanish delegation offices abroad and on Navy vessels. These symbols will return to their original position at midnight on Saturday, after the period of mourning ends.
