Frans Timmermans, from the Netherlands, has held this position since November 2014. Previously, he was a Member of the Dutch Parliament, Minister for European Affairs (2007-2010) and Minister for Foreign Affairs (2012-2014) of the Netherlands.

The President of the Government and First Vice-President of the European Commission addressed the internal political situation of the European Union and the future of the EU following the Declaration of the leaders of the 27 Member States and the European Council, European Parliament and European Commission, adopted on 25 March in Rome. Their talks also covered the start of the process of the United Kingdom's exit from the EU following the formal notification effected on 29 March.
