This meeting between Mariano Rajoy and Martin Schulz took place within the framework of the visit by the President of the European Parliament to Madrid to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Accession of Spain to the European Communities held in the Royal Palace and presided over by His Majesty the King Felipe VI and His Majesty the King Juan Carlos I.

As well as the President of the Government and the President of the European Parliament, this act will also be attended by former President of the Government, Felipe González. The event will be brought to a close by His Majesty the King.

Mariano Rajoy and Martin Schulz took advantage of their meeting to tackle the main issues on the political agenda of the European Union, and in particular the 5 Presidents' Report on the strengthening of the Economic and Monetary Union, the drafting of which President Schulz was also involved in.
