At the meeting, the two leaders jointly reviewed some of the issues of greatest interest for Spain at an EU level, regarding which the European Parliament plays an important role in its function as co-legislator, noteworthy among which are the backing for the adoption of a directive for the creation of a passenger name register (PNR) system that will enable terrorism and other serious crime to be tackled, and the adoption of a regulation to constitute the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), one of the main components of the so-called "Juncker Investment Plan" for the mobilisation of public-private investments, the legislative proposal for which was presented by the European Commission on 13 January.

The European Parliament's vision on the framework of Energy Union presented by the European Commission on 25 February, in particular the chapter on electricity and gas interconnections, and the progress of the talks between the EU and the United States to conclude the agreement on the establishment of a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) by the end of the year, were other issues tackled during the meeting.

Finally, the President of the Government and the President of the European Parliament reviewed the economic and employment situation in the EU and the Eurozone, as well as the European Parliament's vision of the situation in Greece and the functioning of the former over the last few months following its renewed political composition as a result of the parliamentary elections held on 25 May 2014.
