Albares further strengthens the Africa Strategy with the visit of the Nigerian foreign minister

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has received the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs in Madrid, a visit that has allowed him to confirm the harmonious relations that exist between the two countries.
Albares and Tuggar had the opportunity to discuss issues such as security and terrorism, economic cooperation, the situation in the Sahel and Nigeria's role in the Africa 2025 2028 Strategy, presented by President Sánchez on 5 December.
The two ministers also welcomed the entry into force on 19 March of two bilateral agreements between Spain and Nigeria: the Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons and the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters.
The visit concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of political and diplomatic consultations. The purpose of this Memorandum is to establish, improve and strengthen bilateral and multilateral ties between the two countries in the field of international relations, promoting political dialogue and cooperation in areas of common interest. In addition, bilateral cooperation will be promoted on political, economic and cultural issues, as well as on migration and consular relations.
This meeting is a follow-up to Minister Albares' visit to Abuja in January 2023 and highlights the importance of dialogue with African interlocutors as one of Spain's foreign policy priorities, as stated in the Joint Declaration presented by the two ministers.
