Unemployment fell by 10,830 people in July and the total stands at 2,550,237

The total number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) at the end of July fell by 10,830 (-0.42%) compared to the previous month.

In year-on-year terms, unemployment has fallen by 127,637 people (-4.77%).

Registered unemployment stood at 2,550,237, bringing the number of unemployed people close to the 2.5 million mark for the sixth consecutive month.

Unemployment by sector

Unemployment is down or virtually unchanged in all sectors compared to June.

In Services it fell by 6,591 people (-0.36%), in Agriculture by 1,534 people (-1.68%), in Industry by 289 people (-0.14%) and there were 508 more unemployed people in Construction (0.26%). The Without Previous Employment group decreased by 2,924 people (-1.22%).

Unemployment by sex and age

Female unemployment stood at 1,539,745, down by 6,459 women (-0.42%) with respect to June. The total is the lowest since October 2008.

Male unemployment fell to a total of 1,010,492 men, down by 4,371 (-0.43%) from the previous month.

If we compare this data with July 2023, male unemployment fell by 48,898 (-4.62%) and female unemployment fell by 78,739 (-4.86%).

Unemployment among young people under 25 fell in July by 210 people (-0.12%) compared with the previous month.

Youth unemployment has been falling for 39 consecutive months in year-on-year terms and is at an all-time low with a total of 174,926 young people unemployed.

Unemployment by Autonomous Community

Registered unemployment in July 2024 fell in seven autonomous communities. The largest falls in absolute numbers were in Andalusia (-15,965 people ), the Canary Islands (-972 people) and the Principality of Asturias (-963 people).

Contracts

The total number of contracts registered in July was 1,521,516. This is a rise of 90,133 (6.30%) over the same month in 2023.

A total of 589,007 permanent employment contracts were registered, accounting for 38.71% of all new contracts.

Unemployment benefits in June

The total number of beneficiaries at the end of June was 1,699,873.

The coverage of the unemployment protection system in June 2024 was 70.94%.

The average monthly investment per beneficiary, not including the agricultural subsidy in Andalusia and Extremadura, in the month of June 2024 was 1,049.6 euros, which represents an increase of 28.4 euros (2.8%) over the same month of the previous year.

The total amount invested in benefits in June was 1.747 billion euros.
