The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, during his visit to the Army units that are collaborating in the aid and reconstruction of the areas affected by the DANA, accompanied by the Minister for Defense, Margarita Robles (Pool Moncloa/Fernando Calvo)
The chief executive thanked the deployed troops of the Armed Forces and the Military Emergency Unit (UME) for their committed involvement in restoring normality to the affected municipalities in the province of Valencia, in what is already a historic and unprecedented military deployment in times of peace.
Since the deployment of these units began on 29 October, more than 25,000 troops have been involved in relief and reconstruction tasks ranging from rescuing people, distributing food, providing health care and cleaning up, to repairing and setting up infrastructure.
Among other resources, 1,900 specialised land, air and water vehicles have been deployed, along with highly specialised units of engineers, divers and pilots, and the navy ship Juan Carlos I has been made available.
Previously, the President of the Government met with mayors of affected municipalities in the Interministerial Commission on the DANA, and later he held another meeting with social agents.
