During the meeting, Pedro Sánchez discussed current industry issues with Carlos Tavares, focusing on the European Union's CO2 emissions targets and the incentive plan for the sale of electrified vehicles. Pedro Sánchez underlined the importance of public-private partnership to achieve the goals of the green and digital transition, while the CEO of Stellantis shared the milestones achieved and the future challenges within the automotive group's plans.
The president of the Government of Spain has highlighted the Executive's firm commitment to the electrification of the automotive sector, with more than 5.5 billion euros of public funds earmarked for the reindustrialisation of the sector, including the PERTE for Electric and Connected Vehicles. The last call of this strategic project (PERTE VEC III) will be resolved by the end of the year. A fourth call for proposals - allocated 1.25 billion euros - is also expected to be launched soon.
At the same time, the Executive continues to develop the public network of charging stations, having already mobilised more than 1.5 billion euros with the calls launched to date for the line of aid to purchase electric vehicles and the installation of charging points under the Moves Plan.
The Stellantis group, which includes brands such as Citroën, Peugeot, Opel, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Jeep, among others, produced more than one million vehicles in Spain last year, and has been awarded 357.8 million euros through different calls for proposals from the PERTE VEC and the PERTE decarbonisation programme for various projects at its three plants in Spain (Vigo, Madrid and Figueruelas (Zaragoza).
