The chief executive, Pedro Sánchez, received the Report of the Economic and Social Council (CES) on the socio-economic and employment situation in Spain in 2023 at Moncloa Palace, in a meeting with the president of the institution, Antón Costas. The director of the Office of Economic and G20 Affairs, Manuel de la Rocha, and the ESC vice-presidents, Carmen Vidal and Javier Ferrer, also attended.
During the meeting, Antón Costas presented Pedro Sánchez with the report, which was agreed by employers, trade unions and organised civil society. The document is structured in three chapters, covering the economic outlook, employment and industrial relations, in addition to quality of life, social protection and social inclusion. It also includes a special chapter devoted to evaluating the impact of climate change on the socio-economic situation.
The report analyses the economic performance of Europe and Spain in 2023, noting the moderation of inflation and the favourable differential growth of Spain, with a GDP growth of 2.5%, six times more than the Eurozone and the EU. It also includes the improvement of employment, the recovery of the purchasing power of wages, the stability of the labour market and the role of immigration.
