The head of the Executive attended the competitions in the French capital in various disciplines in which Spanish athletes were taking part and also visited the Paralympic Village. Pedro Sánchez highlighted the Government's support for Spanish sport and, in particular, for Paralympic sport, and he praised "the example of life, self-improvement and competition" of these sportsmen and women.
The president also said he was "very proud" of the Spanish Paralympic team's track record. "To have surpassed thirty medals in such a difficult and competitive competition, where in the end you can be on the podium by a second or less, says a lot about the quality and competence of Paralympic sport in Spain," he said.
This performance, he added, shows that the investment and commitment to Paralympic sport is "paying off". Pedro Sánchez underlined the need for public sector support, especially in the case of minority disciplines, so that athletes can train or combine this activity with others. "In short, what we have seen in these Games is the result of the efforts of the athletes, of the Paralympic Olympic Committee and also of the public institutions that are rowing in the same direction," he said.
