The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, today presented a new edition of 'Cumpliendo', which contains an analysis of the commitments made by the Executive in this 15th Legislature, in the period between the investiture on 16 November 2023 and 30 June 2024.

The report is an exercise in transparency and responds to the president's commitment to be accountable to the public on the progress of government action on a regular and systematic basis, providing information on the state of fulfilment of the commitments made by the Executive. "So that citizens who want to can see and know what the government is doing for them. With objective data, not false stories," the president explained.

This initiative consolidates our country's position at the international forefront in this area and allows us to advance in terms of democratic quality and in the culture of public governance and combating political disaffection and developing a process of institutional learning enriched by public debate.

The commitments are organised around the eight strategic lines formulated by Pedro Sánchez in his investiture speech: To complete the socio-economic modernisation in a green and digital key; to reinforce the welfare state; to improve access to housing; to promote a just ecological transition; to consolidate Spain as a world reference in equality between men and women; to strengthen territorial cohesion and face the demographic challenge; to make progress in coexistence; and to reinforce Spain's leadership in Europe and the world.

Main achievements

In the economic sphere, the head of the Executive highlighted the fact that Spain is currently growing by 2.9%, well above the main EU economies, the EU average and the forecasts of international organisations, as well as the record employment figures. On the subject of social equality, Sánchez referred, among other measures, to the increase in pensions, the Minimum Salary and the number of households receiving the Minimum Basic Income and to the extension of measures to protect the purchasing power of families, such as the reduction of VAT on foodstuffs, the social voucher for electricity, mortgage relief and the reduction in the price of public transport. He also pointed to measures to facilitate access to housing.

In relation to the commitment to coexistence and social peace, the president highlighted the normalisation of the political and institutional situation in Catalonia: "After a decade of disagreements, today we are building a future of coexistence," he said. On the environment, Sánchez stressed that Spain has become "the fifth most sustainable large economy on the planet" and, finally, on international policy, he highlighted the fact that "Spain has become a benchmark in the defence of international law, with courage and without double standards".

In short, the president explained that the Government "has not stopped" in the last eight months, "with the aim of moving forwards, modernising our country, combating injustice and improving people's quality of life. And we will continue to do so for the next three years. "To citizens I say that three more years of progress are ahead. That we will deliver," he concluded.
