Pedro Sánchez reiterated the importance of maintaining and increasing financial and military support for Ukraine, while preserving European and transatlantic unity. He explained that unity has been and continues to be the most effective weapon against Putin, which is why new measures must be adopted on the basis of consensus and debate among all allies.
Under this approach, the president underlined the need to approve the new EU Ukraine Assistance Fund, which offers predictable and sustained support over time, and the urgency of increasing European industrial capacity to meet the commitment to deliver ammunition and equipment and of helping Ukraine to develop its own capabilities.
Two years after the Russian aggression began, the president highlighted Spain's support for Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict, with the sending of humanitarian and military aid and the reception of Ukrainian refugees.
He reaffirmed that support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people will continue for as long as necessary to achieve peace.
The peace sought will be just and lasting, in accordance with the principles of international law and the UN Charter, as set out in the proposal presented by President Volodymir Zelenski.
