The President of the Government of Spain talks with the Hungarian Prime Minister ahead of next week's European Council

The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has held a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, ahead of the European Council to be held on 14 and 15 December.

Both leaders discussed progress towards Ukraine's accession to the EU.

President Sánchez recalled that in the Granada Declaration, the EU-27 recognised that the enlargement of the EU is an investment in peace, security, stability and prosperity for Europe.

He also stated that, as holder of the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, Spain will do everything possible to make progress towards consensus among the EU-27 on the revision of the Multiannual Financial Framework.

Financial and military support for Ukraine must be maintained vis-à-vis Russian aggression. The defence of a rules-based international order is one of the fundamental values of the EU.
