Among other authorities and representatives of both organisations, the event was attended by the CEO of C2X, Brian Davis, and the CEO of Cepsa, Maarten Wetselaar.

Pedro Sánchez highlighted the importance of this agreement, pointing out that the alliance between the two companies will make it possible to produce 300,000 tonnes of green methanol, which will reduce CO2 emissions by 1.5 million tonnes per year. "This project will not just lead to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions," said President Sánchez, and recalled that green methanol will also allow progress in the decarbonisation of sectors that are difficult to abandon, such as maritime transport and the chemical industry.

The president of the Government of Spain also stressed that this project contributes to the strategic autonomy and energy security of Spain and the EU as a whole. This investment, fully in line with Spain's reindustrialisation strategy, will also have a significant economic impact on the Andalusia region. It will involve an investment of 1 billion euros in Huelva and the creation of 2,500 direct and indirect jobs, making the region a hub for the production and transport of green methanol and renewable hydrogen.

Pedro Sánchez has also reiterated Spain's commitment to the energy transition. "We want 81% of our electricity generation to come from renewable sources by 2030". Indeed, Spain is today a world leader in renewable energies (5th in the world in wind energy and 8th in renewable generation) and one of the most attractive countries for investments in the energy transition. In this context, Pedro Sánchez stressed that, of all the green hydrogen projects in the world, 20% are located in Spain, behind only the USA. "The Government of Spain is fully committed to offering all the public support necessary to make Spain the European centre for green hydrogen", he said.
