The Chief Executive stressed that this sector "is once again a driving force for employment both in our country and in the Canary Islands", and this "has to do with the response we have given together, jointly among all the administrations, and also with the private sector, to the Covid pandemic".

The President of the Government of Spain took stock of investments in the Canary Islands and highlighted some historic figures. He recalled the direct aid of more than 1.1 billion euros earmarked for small and medium-sized businesses in the tourism and hospitality sector in the Canary Islands, "to be able to cushion, hold fast and tackle the global task of recovering the tourism sector in the Canary Islands". In 2022, local councils and town councils will receive more than 1 billion euros, and in 2023, the Canary Islands will receive around 6.5 billion euros from the regional funding system.

"We are demonstrating the commitment of the Government of Spain to the development of the Canary Islands, in focal issues such as health, education and dependency, all the policies that need the contribution of the State, because it is the Welfare State, social and territorial cohesion," he stressed.

Regarding the Energy Saving Plan, he called for "unity, responsibility and solidarity" from the PP and all public administrations. "Unity in Spain, because it is European unity; responsibility, because we must comply with the law and we must comply with the agreements we have reached in Brussels; and solidarity, because Spain also has a commitment to solidarity with the other European countries", said Sánchez.

Last, Sánchez confirmed that he will visit La Palma again in the next few days. In this regard, he reiterated his thanks to all the administrations, and reaffirmed the Government's commitment to the recovery of this island, following the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano last September.
