The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has received the chairperson of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates. During the meeting, they discussed the major global challenges, such as the fight against climate change and the need to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Sánchez and Gates also discussed Spain's commitment to global health; the donation of vaccines against COVID-19, an issue to which both leaders are committed; and the need to strengthen multilateral structures to be prepared for possible future pandemics.

The leaders discussed the food crisis and the energy crisis, both aggravated by the war in Ukraine. Sánchez and Gates agreed on their shared interest in deepening the collaboration between the Government of Spain and the Gates Foundation on innovation in the energy sector. In particular, they suggested cooperating on accelerating the ecological transition, deepening the links between climate and security, and matters concerning interconnections and smart grids.
