This visit by Monsignor Blázquez is framed within the habitual dialogue between the government and the Episcopal Conference. The President of the Government received Cardinal Blázquez, back in June 2014, just a few months after him having been elected as President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference.

At Tuesday's meeting, Cardinal Blázquez presented the President of the Government with a report on the activities of the Catholic Church in Spain, which also coincides with the upcoming expiry of his mandate at the head of the Spanish Episcopal Conference.
