Mariano Rajoy receives Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament

During the meeting, the President of the Government and the President of the European Parliament took the opportunity to address the most important issues at the start of his mandate, such as the challenge posed by Brexit and the role of the European Parliament in the process of the United Kingdom withdrawing from the European Union. They also reflected on the future of the EU with a view to the upcoming Rome Summit on 25 March, and analysed the European election cycle for 2017, with particular emphasis on the electoral process in France and the current political situation in Italy, and took stock of the international agenda.
