The President of the Government indicated that the infrastructures not only "make life easier" for people and are good for their well-being and future, but they are also "very important works from the point of view of economic growth and employment".
Mariano Rajoy claimed that the goal of any government "worthy of its name" must be growth and job creation and having good infrastructures undoubtedly improves "the competitiveness of economies".
He also maintained that Spain is a country that has "major infrastructures" although "we must continue improving them in the future", both in this and in other aspects, such as education and healthcare.
Acts and not promises
The Pool Moncloa / D. MudarraPresident of the Government stressed that "it is very easy to promise infrastructures, but it is a little more complicated to make them a reality". He added that, over the last four years, 229 million euros have been invested in the A-54 motorway between Lugo and Santiago de Compostela, of which 101 million euros have been invested in the stretch that has been opened today between Guntín and Palas de Rei.
Furthermore, 60 million euros more have been budgeted for completing the final stretches of the A-54 because this is a "road that is called on to become a fundamental part of the internal structure of Galicia and its connections with the A-6". According to Mariano Rajoy, all this shows that "we are speaking through our actions and not through promises, and what is important is that in the future we can also continue to act and not just make promises".
In this regard, Mariano Rajoy recalled the investments that have been made in Galicia during this term of office: 1.24 billion euros on highways and more than 3 billion euros on railway lines.
However, "there is still a lot to do", he said, and hence the government has scheduled new investments for the coming years, including the interconnection between the A-54 and the N-540, the A-56 between Lugo and Ourense, and the A Mariña Motorway between Barreiros and San Cibrao.
To end, Mariano Rajoy highlighted the efforts made by all the people of Spain in recent years, efforts that have not always been easy to explain, but which "do produce results". After overcoming "a complicated stage", Spain is now the country with the fastest rate of growth in the European Union and it is creating the most jobs.
