Mariano Rajoy and Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who had dined together on Wednesday evening at Moncloa Palace, were accompanied by an extensive ministerial delegation.
The meeting was followed by the signing of four agreements, and attended by Egyptian and Spanish business leaders. The Minister for Home Affairs, Jorge Fernández Díaz, and the Egyptian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, signed a co-operation agreement on security issues and combating crime. The Minister for Public Works, Ana Pastor, and the Egyptian Transport Minister, Hany Dahy, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in relation to infrastructure and transport. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, José Manuel García-Margallo, and his Egyptian counterpart signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the protection and restitution of cultural assets stolen or illegally exported. Finally, the Minister for Industry, José Manuel Soria, and the Egyptian Foreign Affairs Minister signed a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism.
Subsequently, the President of the Spanish Government attended a lunch offered by Their Majesties the King and Queen in honour of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt at the Royal Palace in Madrid.
