The Minister for Equality, Ana Redondo, took part in the general debate of the 69th CSW, which focused on the "review and appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly.".

There, the Minister reaffirmed Spain's commitment to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the 2030 Agenda and the eradication of all forms of discrimination and gender-based violence. A commitment that is also embodied in the approval in 2004 of the Comprehensive Law against Gender-Based Violence, the recently renewed State Pact against Gender-Based Violence, and the improvement of working conditions, wages and the revaluation of pensions, universal access to the voluntary termination of pregnancy in the public health system, menstrual leave, the Parity Law or policies to promote co-education and co-responsibility in the area of care.

Ana Redondo highlighted that Spain has moved from tenth place in the European Union's Equality Index in 2017, to fourth place. "This shows that with public policies that incorporate equality as a priority and cross-cutting objective, it is possible to move forward and we are heading in the right direction," said the minister.

Redondo argued at the UN for the need to "strengthen gender-responsive financing, strengthen legal and institutional mechanisms for equality and guarantee women's participation in decision-making".

The minister stated that "Spain will continue to defend a feminist agenda, both nationally and internationally" and stressed that "we are facing a challenge that challenges us all".
