The Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles, during the videoconference
Margarita Robles remotely participated in an international conference together with leading counterparts, as well as representatives of the European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defence, in order to receive information and work on all avenues to help end the war and move towards peace.
The meeting has been jointly convened and organised by the defence ministers of Ukraine and Lithuania, and stems from commitments made during the First Peace Summit, held on 15 and 16 June 2024 in Switzerland, which was attended by the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez.
In addition to the ministers, the head of President Zelenskyy's cabinet also took part in the video conference.
In her speech, Robles said that every day of delay in achieving a just peace means suffering and dramatic human losses for the Ukrainian people.
Furthermore, she insisted that this longed-for peace must include the return of displaced Ukrainians to their homes, the withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine and the reconstruction and territorial restoration of Ukraine, and stressed the firmness of Spain's commitment to support Ukraine.
