Unemployment falls by 16,036 to 2,586,018, the lowest November figure since 2007

The number of unemployed people registered in the offices of the Public State Employment Service (SEPE) at the end of November fell by 16,036 compared with the previous month (-0.62%).

The total number of unemployed people stood at 2,586,018, the lowest figure for a November since 2007.

Unemployment by economic sector

The fall in unemployment compared to October covers all economic sectors. It fell in Services by 8,693 people (-0.46%), in Industry by 2,268 people (-1.12%), in Construction by 2,124 people (-1.08%), in Agriculture by 1,902 people (-2.17%) and, finally, among the Unemployed by 1,049 people (-0.43%).

Unemployment by sex and age

Female unemployment decreased by 10,811 (-0.69%) to a total of 1,556,800 in November from the previous month.

Male unemployment stood at 1,029,218, a decrease of 5,225 (-0.51%).

If we compare it with November 2023, female unemployment falls by 88,293 (-5.37%) and male unemployment falls by 60,520 (-5.55%).

Unemployment among young people under 25 years of age fell in November by 3,796 people (-1.89%) with respect to the previous month, to 196,704.

Unemployment by autonomous community

In November, unemployment fell in 11 Autonomous Communities. The biggest falls in absolute numbers were in Andalusia (-8,464 people), the Community of Madrid (-4,451 people) and Catalonia (-2,307 people).

Contracts

The total number of contracts registered in November was 1,301,482. Of these, 544,519 employment contracts are permanent, representing 41.84% of all contracts, underpinning yet another month of stability in the Spanish labour market.

Benefits in October

Existing beneficiaries at the end of October totalled 1,757,250 people.

The coverage of the unemployment protection system during October 2024 was 72.17%, the highest since 2010.

The average monthly expenditure per beneficiary, excluding the agricultural subsidy in Andalusia and Extremadura, in October 2024 was 1,117.5 euros, which represents an increase of 44.4 euros (4.1%) over the same month the previous year.

Total benefit spending in October 2024 was 1.922 billion euros.
