The King and Queen of Spain have presented the National Culture Awards for the 2022 and 2023 editions, with which the Ministry of Culture annually distinguishes personalities from the world of culture in its various genres and modalities. The event took place at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid.

The award ceremony was attended by the Minister for Culture, Ernest Urtasun, and representing the 2022 winners, the author Luis Landero, winner of the National Prize for Spanish Literature, as well as the 2023 winners, and the artist Teresa Lanceta, who was awarded the National Prize for Plastic Arts. The event also featured a musical performance by Rodrigo Cuevas, winner of the National Prize for Contemporary Music 2023. The award ceremony was closed by King Felipe VI.

The National Culture Prizes for the 2022 and 2023 editions presented at this ceremony were awarded to:

  • National Fashion Design Award: Ángel Fernández Ovejero (2022) and Teresa Helbig (2023).
  • National Essay Prize: Joan-Carles Mèlich Sangrà (2022) and Antonio Monegal (2023).
  • National Award for the Promotion of Reading in the category of Entity: The Association Atrapavientos (2022) and the Primary School (C.E.I.P.) Andalusia' in Seville (2023).
  • National Award for the Promotion of Reading in the Media category: La Revista de Occidente (2022) and the magazine 'Librújula' (2023).
  • National Award for the Promotion of Creativity in Toys: Paola Reina Dolls (2023).

The following were unable to attend and collect the awards for scheduling reasons: Silvia Pérez Cruz, National Prize for Contemporary Music 2022; Rogelio López Cuenca, National Plastic Arts Prize 2022; Cristobal Hara, National Photography Prize 2022; Jaime Martín, National Music Prize in the category of Performance 2022; Josep María Joan Rosa, National Prize for the Promotion of Creativity in Toys 2022, and Pere Lluís Font, National Prize for the Best Translation 2022.

As has become customary, the National Film Award is presented at a ceremony held every year at the San Sebastian International Film Festival. In this framework, the actress Penélope Cruz, awarded in 2022, and the director Carla Simón, awarded in 2023, received their respective distinctions from the Minister for Culture.
