The Ministry of Defence has begun the multimodal transport to Ukraine of 10 'Leopard' 2A4 battle tanks, after completing an exhaustive repair, overhaul and readiness process at the Santa Bárbara factory in Alcalá de Guadaira (Seville), and having passed the corresponding tests to verify their full operability.

The first phase of the transport from Seville to Ferrol was carried out by land last week. Once loaded onto a Ro-Ro vessel for the second phase of transport by sea, the ship left Ferrol at midday on Saturday 13 July.

It is expected to arrive in a Polish port before next weekend. Once in Poland, the tanks will begin their protected transport by land to the point of delivery to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Armed Forces will be responsible for the last phase of movement through Ukraine until the tanks are made available to operational units of the Ukrainian Army. Security measures are being taken at all stages of this important movement.

With this new shipment of 'Leopard' 2A4 battle tanks, Spain has donated a total of 20 tanks to Ukraine. Another new set is expected to be donated in the second half of 2024.
