At the plenary session, the Minister for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, informed the President of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, and Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, of the progress made since the last summit in all matters relating to transport and its infrastructure, as well as the new decisions adopted to achieve more sustainable and digitalised transport.

The minister also held a sectoral meeting with the Portuguese Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Pedro Nuno, in which they analysed everything related to the different modes of transport and their infrastructure.

Both ministers welcomed the results of the enhanced cooperation mechanisms established after the last summit, which have led to better coordination of actions at a bilateral level and have made it possible to agree on common positions in the current process of revising the Trans-European Transport Network Regulation.

Development of new infrastructure

The two ministers also noted the great progress that has been made both in the development of new infrastructure and in the maintenance, rehabilitation and updating of existing infrastructure.

By way of example, the ministers shared that the informative study of the Vigo South exit project is already being drafted, and that this quarter the section of road connecting Fuentes de Oñoro and Vilar Formoso will be put into service, that the progress of the railway actions on the Lisbon-Madrid axis will allow a 40% reduction in travel time in the short term and that in June the rehabilitation work on the International Bridge over the Guadiana River between Ayamonte and Vila Real de Santo Antonio was completed.

In addition, they adopted two agreements that reflect the commitment of both countries to achieve greater sustainability and digitalisation of transport.
