More than 30 million people in Spain have already been fully vaccinated against COVID-19

It is worth noting that in the age group over 80 years, 100% of people have been fully vaccinated; in the 70-79 age group, 99.1% have received at least one dose and 98.2% have been double jabbed; in the 60-69 age group, 97.5% have received at least one dose and 93.9% fully vaccinated.

In the 50-59 age group, 92.9 per cent have received one dose and 89.7 per cent have been double jabbed; in the 40-49 age group, 85.1 per cent have received one dose and 81 per cent are fully vaccinated. In the next age group, 30-39 years, 71.8% have received one dose and 58.5% the full course.

Finally, in the 20-29 age group, 68.4% have had one dose and 35.8% have both, and in the 12-19 age group, 49.1% already have one dose and 9.3% both. Since Araceli Rosario Hidalgo received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccineon 27 December 2020 at the 'Los Olmos' old people's home in Guadalajara, a total of 67,461,422 of the four available vaccines have been distributed among the autonomous communities, of which 62,193,144 (92.2%) have already been administered.

The Vaccination Campaign in Spain is part of the coordinated strategy of the European Union, which on 21 December last year reached its first milestone with the authorisation of Pfizer and BioNTech's 'Comirnaty' for distribution in all Member States. Since then, 46,800,807 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech SARS-CoV-2 vaccine have been distributed among the different autonomous communities, of which a total of 43,443,655 doses have been administered.

Subsequently, after receiving authorisation from the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the first doses of the Moderna vaccine arrived in Spain on 12 January 2021. Since then, 8,033,280 doses have been distributed, of which a total of 7,154,596 have been administered. Also on 12 January, the EMA received the application from AstraZeneca and Oxford University, which followed the same steps and controls as the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, before being approved by the EMA on 29 January, making it the third vaccine to be given the go-ahead by European regulators.

On 6 February, the Government certified the receipt of the first 196,800 doses of this vaccine for distribution among the different autonomous communities and cities. Of these, 9,979,000 doses have been distributed among the autonomous regions, of which 9,692,879 have been administered.

Finally, on 20 April, the Minister for Health received the first 146,000 doses of the vaccine from Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), the fourth authorised to date by the European authorities and the only single dose vaccine. Since then, 2,648,335 doses have been delivered among the autonomous communities and cities, of which a total of 1,902,014 have been administered.

Meeting milestones

The data show that Spain continues to make progress in the Coronavirus Vaccination Strategy, with the aim of achieving 70% of the population fully vaccinated.

Thus, during the last week of February, for the first time, the number of doses of vaccine administered against the coronavirus exceeded the number of people infected. Since then, each of the milestones of the vaccination campaign set out in the roadmap presented by the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, on 6 April have been progressively met.

Thus, in the week of 3 May, more than five million people were fully vaccinated and in the first week of June, more than 10 million people were vaccinated. Subsequently, 15 million and 25 million people were fully vaccinated by mid-June and week 19 respectively, and today the number surpassed 30 million.
