News - 2021.1.13
The original seven countries that had already signed up to this Partnership are now joined by Belgium and Spain, through the signing of the Ambition Declaration to 2025, thus renewing the commitment to halt deforestation in relation to agricultural products by the year 2025.
By signing this Ambition Declaration to 2025, the nine signatory European countries - Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Spain - strengthen their commitment to promote the sustainability of agriculture, halt deforestation in relation to agricultural products and work in association with consumer and producer countries and all stakeholders throughout the supply chains to this end.
The Amsterdam Declarations Partnership was established in 2015 by several European countries with the aim of promoting the elimination of deforestation in the supply chains of basic agricultural products in European countries, working in association with consumer and producer countries and with all stakeholders throughout the supply chains, so as to guarantee sustainable and deforestation-free agricultural supplies. This Partnership also brings together the efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda and of the United Nations Strategic Plan for Forests.
Maintain forests and their ecosystems
They also take on the commitment to take measures in this field and to jointly promote and support ambitious actions at a European level to achieve sustainable and deforestation-free agricultural supplies, and contribute to maintain forests and their ecosystems at a global level.
The Government of Spain, which shares the principles of reducing global deforestation from the impact caused on the loss of biodiversity and climate change, of promoting sustainability at source and the achievement of deforestation-free supply chains, thus upholds its commitment to the fight against deforestation.
Through the Amsterdam Partnerships, Spain will work to undertake ambitious actions with the aim of growing the European market in sustainable basic products.
Agricultural products produced sustainably and the maintenance of forest ecosystems play a vital role in ensuring an inclusive and sustainable recovery and in supporting livelihoods, while complying with the shared goals in the fight against climate change and the conservation of biodiversity.
Spain, by signing the Ambition Declaration to 2025 will continue working to support and improve coherence in policies and actions on climate, forests, biodiversity, health, agriculture, trade and development cooperation.
