Spain receives more than 36 million tourists in first half of the year

Spain closed the first half of 2017 with a record figure of 36,366,010 inbound tourists, according to the Border Tourist Movements survey (FRONTUR), prepared by the National Statistics Institute. This figure represents an 11.6% increase on the first six months of 2016 and consolidates the trend in growth posted in the year to date of arrivals in Spain of tourists from other countries.

Particularly noteworthy is the United Kingdom as the leading emitting market, with close on 8.6 million inbound tourists, and growth of 9.1%. This market is followed by Germany, with almost 5.5 million inbound tourists and growth of 9.6%, and then by France, with more than 4.7 million tourists and growth of 4.9%.

Catalonia remains in first place in terms of the number of inbound tourists in the first half of the year, with more than 8.6 million arrivals, up 10.3%, followed by the Canary Islands, with more than 6.9 million, up 9.7%, and the Balearic Islands, with close to 5.4 million arrivals, up 8.5%.

Inbound tourists in June

As regards the month of June 2017, our country was visited by 8.4 million inbound tourists, 11.6% up on the same month of 2016.

The United Kingdom was the leading emitting market, with 2,176,386 tourists, a 4.2% rise on June 2016, followed by Germany, with 1,416,874 tourists, up 15.9%, and France, with 860,034 (up 4.4%).
