Several senior Saudi Arabian officials and members of the Ministry of Public Works travelled on this test run, together with executives from companies making up the Spanish consortium commissioned with carrying out these works.
The journey started in the city of Jeddah from where it travelled to the King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), where the intermediate station, which has now been completed, and the Broadcast Operations Control Centre (BOCC) were visited.
The train then travelled on to Medina, during which time it reached its maximum operating speed of 300 km/h.
At present, approximately 370 km out of the total length of 449 km (80%) of the Haramain Project are undergoing tests.
The Al Shoula Consortium is made up of 12 Spanish companies (Adif, Cobra, Consultrans, Copasa, Imathia, Inabensa, Indra, Ineco, OHL, Renfe, Siemens Rail Automation and Talgo) and two Saudi Arabian partners. The consortium is responsible for the design, construction, maintenance and operation of the Haramain High-Speed Rail Project.
