Over these 25 years, we have built up sound political relations and the ties between our countries have grown and expanded into a process facilitated by the genuine vocation for European and Atlantic integration displayed by Georgia. Spain backs these Euro-Atlantic aspirations, as it has shown, for example, over the course of the whole visa liberalisation process, which has now positively concluded, reinforcing the rapprochement between the people of Georgia and Europe.

Today, Spain and Georgia are two democracies that - from different extremes of Europe - work in favour of peace and cooperation. Spain has accompanied the significant development of Georgia since its independence and has supported - and continues to support - its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Spain reiterates its firm backing for the right to help Georgia to preserve its territorial integrity and effectively re-establish its full sovereignty over its internationally-recognised borders.

Over recent years, bilateral relations between our two countries have become more consolidated through regular high-level contacts, an increase in business ties, growing trade exchanges, cooperation at a cultural and educational level and the implementation of joint projects in such varied areas as the protection of the environment, the fight against drug trafficking and transnational-crime and gender policy, among others. The Government of Spain hopes that our two countries can continue working together to continue strengthening our excellent bilateral relations and boost the shared values that unite our respective peoples.
