This new route is further evidence of the relationship between the two territories, which were strengthened on Tuesday, 9 May, with the signing of an air services agreement by the Minister for Public Works, Íñigo de la Serna, and the Secretary for Transport and Housing of Hong Kong, Anthony Cheung Bing-Leung.

This agreement culminates a process that began two years ago, when the teams from Spain and Hong Kong met for the first time in Madrid.

The Minister for Public Works trusts that the reduction in airport charges will help foster the development of new international routes. In this regard, boosting international connectivity is one of his department's priorities, since this contributes to the growth of the Spanish economy.

Possible areas for collaboration

During the meeting, the Minister for Public Works conveyed to the Secretary for Transport and Housing of Hong Kong his interest in extending this collaboration to other areas such as railways and other infrastructures where Spain has a proven international track-record and reputation.

In this regard, he stressed that Spanish companies are involved in some of the most important infrastructure projects on the international stage, such as the high-speed train between Mecca and Medina (Saudi Arabia), and the underground services in Riyadh, Doha, Lima and Panama City.
