This agreement forms part of the various exchanges that Spain organises on an annual basis with other Member States, with this being the most significant in terms of the size of the quotas exchanged.
The agreement will allow the Spanish fleet to increase its activity in non-Spanish EU waters by obtaining larger quotas of the two main species caught by Spanish vessels - hake and anglerfish.
Furthermore, 'mini-quotas' of such species as haddock and pollock have been included, for which Spain had no quotas and which the Spanish fleet was forced to discard until now.
