The investigation began early last year when investigators detected an operation consisting of sending funds to fighters recruited into the ranks of DAESH. Those responsible managed to send various sums to Syria by using different identities and intermediaries and limiting the remittances to amounts that would not be noticed.

The presence of a member of the family in the conflict zone led the rest of the brothers to conspire to collect funds and ensure they reached Syria. The complexity of the scheme and the security measures adopted by those involved, with each having his own specific role, led to Wednesday's arrest given the important role M.E.J. played in the plot.

The operation has involved collaboration with the European Police Office (EUROPOL), which deployed a Mobile Office to collaborate with the investigators in the real-time analysis of the data obtained. International cooperation was particularly important in this case given the final destination outside our country and the intermediaries used to make the funds reach their final recipients.

Since 2015, the year in which the Ministry of Home Affairs raised the Counter-Terrorism Alert Level to level 4 (Spanish acronym: NAA-4), the law enforcement agencies have arrested a total of 194 Jihadist terrorists.

The Ministry of Home Affairs sends out a reminder that, through the initiative STOP RADICALISMOS, citizens can collaborate through a series of channels open to them so that, in a confidential and secure manner, they can notify the State law enforcement agencies of possible cases of radicalisation in their vicinity through the web page www.stop-radicalismos.es, the mobile phone app for citizens security alerts Alertcops and the free hotline 900 822 066.
