With a view to the upcoming 7th High-Level Meeting, which Algeria will host on this occasion, the two delegations expressed their interest in extending and diversifying their excellent bilateral relations which include intense political dialogue and model cooperation on security and migration. In terms of security, the two delegations took stock of the launch, in December 2016, of the Strategic Dialogue on Security between the two countries.

Bilateral economic relations, in which Algeria is an important partner for Spain, as a constant and reliable supplier of energy, were the subject of particular attention. They also tackled cultural relations, and both delegations recalled, with satisfaction, the successful development of the commemoration, in 2016, of the fourth centenary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes, with an extensive programme of activities in which the Algerian authorities actively participated.

The two ministers welcomed the new boost to relations between Algeria and the European Union, coinciding with the 10th Association Council, which will ratify the new priorities for the EU-Algeria Association on 13 March,

Lastly, Minister Dastis reported on the role of Spain on the United Nations Security Council over the two-year period 2015-2016 and they reviewed regional and global issues, such as the situation in Libya, Mali, the Sahel and the Western Sahara.
