Spain significantly contributed to the adoption of this resolution, exercising the good offices as holder of the Rotating Presidency of the Security Council and based on its inalienable humanitarian convictions.
The resolution adopted on Monday, 19 December, seeks to ensure that the evacuation of Aleppo takes place under safe conditions pursuant to principles of international humanitarian law and under the neutral and direct supervision of the United Nations. It also urges all parties to the conflict to facilitate the provision of medical and humanitarian assistance to all those people in need of this and to respect the health and humanitarian professionals in line with the provisions of Resolution 2286 (2016).
The Government of Spain welcomes that on this occasion, the importance of attending to the serious medical, healthcare and hunger needs of the civilian population of Aleppo has prevailed over other aggressive actions and calls on all parties involved in the conflict to full comply with the wording of the resolution.
