Free admission, extended opening times and special activities at State Museums for National Day of Spain

The 16 State Museums are: the National Museum of Roman Art (Mérida); the National Altamira Museum and Research Centre (Cantabria); the National Archaeology Museum, the Fashion Museum, the National Museum of Decorative Arts, the Sorolla Museum, the National Museum of Anthropology, the Cerralbo Museum, the National Museum of Romanticism and the Museum of the Americas in Madrid; the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology (ARQUA) in Cartagena; the El Greco Museum and the Sefardí Museum in Toledo; the González Martí National Pottery and Sumptuary Arts Museum in Valencia; and the National Museum of Sculpture and the Casa de Cervantes Museum in Valladolid.

The Reina Sofia National Arts Centre (from 10:00 to 21:00), the El Prado National Museum (from 10:00 to 20:00) and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum (from 12:30 to 19:00) will also offer free admission to the general public.

Besides free admission to all State Museums, the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology (ARQUA), the National Museum of Anthropology and the Sorolla Museum will offer extended opening times.

Special activities at the State Museums

A number of museums have prepared some special activities for celebrating the National Day of Spain. The National Altamira Museum and Research Centre is offering an activity entitled 'Territorio Bisonte en Rojo' at its Museoteca. At the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology, it will be possible to enjoy a Habaneras Concert by the Coral Carthagonova and the Museum of the Americas will offer a dramatised visit entitled 'Mi Nombre es Malinalli'.

The State Museums will also offer a wide range of temporary exhibitions, including the recently-opened 'Balkaneros: el Festival de Trompetas de GuČa' (Serbia) and 'De la fotografía al azulejo. Pueblo, monumentos y paisajes de Portugal en la primera mitad del siglo XX' at the National Museum of Anthropology, 'Cristina Bolborea. Lugares donde estaré' at the National Museum of Decorative Arts and 'Signo y Gesto: Metamorfosis. Una visión contemporánea en torno al Greco y Caravaggio' at the El Greco Museum.
