"The Ministry of Public Works wishes to advise and cooperate with the institutions of Central American integration in the design and implementation of an integrated strategy in the territorial development of the region", underlined Ana Pastor.

To this end, the Minister for Public Works pointed out that the effort made by Spain in planning infrastructures has helped optimise its impact on development, competitiveness and cohesion, and offered this experience to the members of SICA that face similar challenges.

"Aeronautic, port, railway and highway infrastructures are essential for strengthening the boost to socio-economic activity", highlighted the minister.

Spanish engineering overseas

So far in 2015, the figure for the award of international tenders in which Spanish companies have taken part amounts to more than 33.28 billion euros. In the whole of 2014, this amount totalled 47 billion euros.

Among the most noteworthy projects under way are the Mecca-Medina high-speed railway line, the underground system in Riyadh, the East Anglia (marine wind farm), and the underground system in Lima. Also noteworthy are the Panama Canal and the Bosphorus tunnels.

In this regard, the minister pointed out that these projects have become the finest example of Spanish engineering overseas.
