These meeting are called periodically and at the last meeting, which took place in June in Doha, the capital of Qatar, the Chief of the Spanish Defence Staff, General Fernando García Sánchez, offered Madrid as the headquarters to host the seventh edition of this meeting.

This offer strengthens Spain's commitment to this International Coalition, which seeks to defeat DAESH in Syria and Iraq, with the aim of facilitating the re-establishment of regional security and stability, and reduce the threat that this terrorist group and other similar groups pose to Spain.

The Spanish Armed Forces have formed part of the International Coalition against DAESH following authorisation from the Plenary Session of the Lower House of Parliament on 22 October 2014, which approved the deployment of a contingent of military personnel, which have joined up to the general headquarters of the Coalition and form two training units, one of brigade-style Iraqi units in Besmayah and another of Iraqi special operations units in Baghdad and Tayi.
