Guardia Civil and Guardia Costeira rescue 523 immigrants off coast of Libya

Meanwhile, another vessel, Nave Corsi, belonging to the Guardia Costeira, taking part in the same operation requested the transfer to the Guardia Civil vessel of another 198 people who had been rescued.

Following their embarkation in the vessel Río Segura, 523 people - 376 men, 125 women and 22 children - were taken into port. They were all provided with food and water. Some of these people were injured or suffering from scabies and were attended in the ship's infirmary.

Among those rescued by the two vessels, there were citizens from Nigeria, Gambia, Senegal, Libya, the Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.
