The meeting served to analyse the situation of refugees prior to the meeting of the European Commission, which next Wednesday will present a strategy for the distribution of 120,000 refugees between Member States. Furthermore, the government has called a meeting on Tuesday, 8 September, of the Sector Conference for Immigration, at which the councillors from the regional governments and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (Spanish acronym: FEMP) will be represented.

The meeting was attended by the Ministers for Home Affairs, Jorge Fernández Díaz; for Health, Social Services and Equality, Alfonso Alonso; for Employment and Social Security, Fátima Báñez; for Justice, Rafael Catalá; and for Education, Culture and Sport, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo. The Inter-ministerial Group, which is also made up of the ministerial departments of foreign affairs and defence, is dealing with a drama that the government wishes to tackle in a coordinated and supportive manner.
