In a decisive year for the development agenda, this meeting seeks to debate the different means to guarantee the fulfilment of the post-2015 development agenda. Issues related with the Millennium Development Goals and the financing mechanisms following the Addis Ababa Summit in July have been tackled. Specifically, special emphasis was placed on the various international financial instruments to support projects to combat climate change in developing countries, particularly the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The AECID [Spanish International Development Agency] is in the process of receiving accreditation from the GDF, which will help forge synergies between the former and the Water and Sanitation Cooperation Fund (Spanish acronym: FCAS) and will result in a greater impact from Spanish cooperation in the sector. Spain, due to its climatic characteristics, has significant experience in the effective management of water resources. The FCAS has so far paid out more than 800 million euros in water and sanitation programmes in Latin America.

During his visit to Stockholm, the State Secretary has had the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with the Swedish authorities. Specifically, he met with the Minister for International Development Cooperation, Isabella Lövin, with the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Annika Söder and with the State Secretary for the Presidency of the Government, Hans Dahlgren, with whom he reviewed the political agenda for Latin America.
