Ministry of Defence finalises technical agreement on Morón Air Base with United States

By virtue of this agreement, Spain will assign a liaison officer to the general headquarters of the United States African Command (AFRICOM) and establishes the possibility of assigning officials to other general headquarters in the near future; in turn, the United States is considering establishing an operational liaison officer to the Spanish Joint Chiefs of Staff. Similarly, both the number of people involved, and the scope and quality of the joint training of military personnel from both countries will be stepped up and they will carry out a greater number of joint exercises; an initial investment of 29 million dollars will be guaranteed to make improvements at the base which will generate the jobs necessary to carry this out.
Furthermore, the two countries will seek opportunities for both present and future workers in the local community, in adherence to the principle of proportionality between US and Spanish workers provided by the agreement currently in force.
Moreover, the United States intends to recommend the approval of systematic transfers of arms and services to help boost the interoperability of the Spanish Armed Forces with the US Armed Forces.
At an industrial level, the U.S. National Defense Industrial Association and the Spanish Defence, Aeronautics and Space Technology Association (Spanish acronym: TEDAE), intend to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim of promoting enhanced cooperation between Spain and the United States on issues related to weapons and cooperation on security issues.
