This agreement, which represents increased collaboration between the two countries to combat different forms of criminal conduct, was signed by the Minister for Home Affairs, Jorge Fernández Díaz, and the Egyptian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sameh Hassan Shoukry.
Spain and Egypt, which currently have bilateral agreements in force, will now have a new tool with which to continue combating, in partnership, threats such as terrorism, drug trafficking, money laundering, the trafficking of firearms and explosives, white collar crime, cyber-offences and other activities of cross-border organised crime, such as human trafficking and illegal immigration.
In order to boost co-operation in the fight against all forms of criminal conduct, Spain and Egypt undertake to exchange information and cooperate in the operational activities of police investigations. This collaboration also extends to technical and scientific assistance, as well as to the area of professional training. Moreover, the agreement provides for the creation of a mixed committee that will bring together, at a technical level, senior officials from each home affairs ministry to help boost co-operation. In short, this is an agreement that opens up a new stage of increased collaboration with the aim of offering a fast and coordinated response to criminal conduct in all its shapes and forms.
