The aircraft is due to depart from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. The Nepalese Government will oversee the distribution of humanitarian aid sent by the Spanish Government.
The shipment is composed of items to provide shelter - blankets, tarpaulins, tents, etc-, mobile latrines, water purifying kits, cooking equipment, emergency medical supplies and other articles.
The Spanish Agency for Co-operation is financing this charter flight and supplying part of the cargo, which also includes contributions from Spanish non-governmental organisations specialised in humanitarian aid including Médicos del Mundo, the Spanish Red Cross and Oxfam Intermon.
The Spanish Office for Humanitarian Affairs of the Agency for International Development Co-operation (Spanish acronym: AECID) has been working from the outset on organising the Spanish humanitarian aid response, in coordination with the Nepalese Government and international institutions which, together with the United Nations Office for Coordination on Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), are coordinating the international humanitarian contribution on the ground, to alleviate the consequences of the earthquake on the population in the most effective manner.
