The Government of Spain has already ordered the payment of more than 1.531 billion euros into the accounts of the municipalities affected by the DANA included in the annex of Royal Decree Law 6/2024.

Thus, of the 1.745 billion euros that the Ministry for Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory activated on 28 January to finance all the repair, restoration or reconstruction of infrastructures, equipment or municipal facilities and services, payment of more than 1.531 billion euros has already been accepted for 60 councils, i.e., 88% of the amount earmarked for this purpose has been accepted for payment.

In the next few days, the remaining municipalities included in the RDL will receive the remaining amount of the 1.745 billion euros committed to up to 500 interventions, including the repair of essential infrastructures to restore normality to the affected municipalities, such as nursery schools, markets, social centres, sports facilities, etc.

The Secretary of State for Territorial Policy, Arcadi España, stated in Valencia that "the Government of Spain is giving a historic response to the consequences of the terrible DANA on 29 October." "As announced by President Pedro Sánchez, the Government has mobilised 16.6 billion euros after the DANA, and 1.745 billion euros is for the full recovery of municipal infrastructures, which will return the affected towns to normality," said the Secretary of State, who also recalled that "the costs of these repairs are being paid in record time and in advance into the accounts of the municipalities."

Technical seminar

This morning, Arcadi España inaugurated a working day at the Government Subdelegation in Valencia with the town councils affected by the DANA to inform them of the technical aspects of the call for applications for aid for the reconstruction of municipal infrastructures, as well as the steps to be taken after the town councils have accepted the subsidies.

"We want to facilitate procedures to get the works underway as soon as possible, with three key innovations: the advance of 100% of the repair costs, the possibility of relocating the infrastructures to safer municipal plots and the inclusion of improvements that increase their resistance to climate change," said España.

"The Government of Spain is constantly maintaining open channels of dialogue and collaboration with all the local councils whose infrastructures have been destroyed," insisted España, who concluded that "the Government of Spain's priority from the first minute was is to be with the affected councils and citizens, and with this roadmap we will continue to work until we achieve improved normality throughout the territory."
