The meeting served to provide continuity to the meetings the two Heads of Government held on 2 September 2014 in Madrid and the official visit by the President of the Government to Andorra on 7 and 8 January 2015, the first such visit by a President of the Government of Spain to the Principality. The meeting also takes place within the framework of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year, in 2018.
The two leaders addressed the recent presentation by Andorra of its candidature to host the 27th Ibero-American Summit in 2020, some aspects of interest to Andorra relating to the operation of Andorra-La Seu d'Urgell Airport, as well as Spain's interest in the presence and consolidation of the Spanish education system in the Principality.
Within the framework of relations with the European Union, the two Heads of Government also reviewed the present state of negotiations on an association agreement between Andorra and the European Union, being a process that interests Spain both as a Member State of the EU and as Andorra's neighbour.
